Barolo Prapo’ DOCG (Schiavenza)

Barolo Prapo’ DOCG (Schiavenza)

SOMMELIER’S DESCRIPTION

The Schiavenza winery is located in the heart of Serralunga d’Alba. Luciano Pira, agronomist and cellar man, continues to carry on the legacy of producing traditional great red wines of the Langa including the “king of the wines”: Barolo. The three selections from the vineyards “Broglio”, “Prapò” and “Bricco Cerretta” are the greatest expression of the company. Prapò, the hamlet of the village of Serralunga d’Alba, is one of the greatest “Cru” of the whole DOCG Barolo and is comparable to a french “grand cru”. Prapò is the flagship of the Schiavenza production and comes from calcareous and tuffaceous soil at 350 metres a.s.l. which is kissed by the sun thanks to the great south-east exposition. The fermentation occurs in vitrified cement tanks and is followed by aging in large Slavonia oak barrels which represents the classic Barolo-stye. The Barolo Prapò is a typical expression of Serralunga’s Barolo: elegance and complexity mark standout of the Barolos which distinguish themselves thanks to their full-bodied taste and richness in tannins, which give great longevity.
